Since 2002, Laura Nathanson, Executive Vice President, Ad Sales, ABC Family, has overseen the ad sales team dedicated to the network’s programming, a mix of network-defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. Nathanson leads a team that includes offices in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago. Ending 2010, the network has seen seven consecutive years of record growth and is a Top 10 cable network.
Under Nathanson, ABC Family’s ad sales revenues have increased significantly since her arrival in 2002, fueled in part by the success of network’s programming, including hits “Pretty Little Liars,” “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Greek,” “Make It or Break it,” “Melissa & Joey,” and original like “Revenge of the Bridesmaids” and “My Fake Fiance,” in addition to the network’s blockbuster theatrical acquisitions, including the “Harry Potter” franchise.
In her role, Nathanson and her team have been responsible for successfully implementing innovative initiatives such as the “Super Spot,” which lets media buyers purchase inventory on the linear network and online at one negotiation point.
Previously Nathanson oversaw national sales as Executive Vice President, National Sales Manager for the ABC Television Network.
Earlier she was Executive Vice President, Primetime Sales, ABC Television Network, a position she’d held since July 1999. She joined ABC as Senior Vice President, Primetime Sales, in March 1998. Prior to joining ABC, she served as Vice President, Interactive Sales and Group Director of Eastern Sales, Fox Broadcasting. She joined Fox in 1989 as an account executive in the Sales department.
Before joining Fox, Nathanson held several network buying positions at Grey Advertising, Young & Rubicam and BBDO Worldwide. She began her career at NBC Television in 1980.
Nathanson was recently named by Broadcasting & Cable as one of 2010’s “Next Wave of Leaders.” She was inducted into the CableFAX “Sales Hall of Fame” in June 2010 and named one of 2010’s “The Most Powerful Women in Cable” by the magazine; additionally Nathanson and her team also received the CableFAX “Sales Team of the Year: National Cable Sales” Award.
Nathanson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University.
